Changing the battery in a 30gig ipod video

Decided I wanted a higher capacity battery for my ipod video, managed to find a 650mah one for a reasonable price.

Next step is how to fit it

get some non marring tools to open your ipod with and its pretty simple and will easily take less than 15 minutes

first of all put your ipod on hold, so that it doesnt come on whilst you are changing the battery, then using your tools, starting at the top use a prying motion and open the ipod

When you have pryed round the entire top and sides on the ipod, there are two clips at the bottom once these are free the back of the ipod is nearly free, next disconnect the battery connector

The ipod case can not be opened and placed next to the bulk of the ipod, the battery is stuck down at the top of the case, gently remove it being careful not to rip any of the ribbon cables, push the new battery onto the adhesive pads, reconnect the battery ribbon cable and clip the ipod back together, charge the ipod up for four hours and you have a ipod with a new battery!

Top 10 ways to mess with your flat mates head

1) Talk back to your Rice Krispies. All of a sudden, act offended,
throw the bowl on the floor and kick it. Refuse to clean it up, explaining, 'No, I want to watch them suffer.'

2) Every time your flatmate walks in yell, 'Hooray! You're back!'
as loud as you can and dance around the room for five minutes.
Afterwards, keep looking at your watch and saying, 'Shouldn't
you be going somewhere?'

3) Make a sandwich. Don't eat it, leave it on the floor. Ignore
the sandwich. Wait until your flatmate gets rid of it, and then
say, 'Hey, where the f**k is my sandwich!?' Complain loudly that
you are hungry.

4) While your flatmate is out, glue your shoes to the ceiling.
When your flatmate walks in, sit on the floor, hold your head,
and moan.

5) Tell your flatmate, 'I've got an important message for you.'
Then pretend to faint. When you recover, say you can't remember
what the message was. Later on, say, 'Oh, yeah, I remember!'
Pretend to faint again. Keep this up for several weeks.

6) Collect hundreds of pens and pile them on one side of the room.
Keep one pencil on the other side of the room. Laugh at the pencil.

7) Buy some knives. Sharpen them every night. While you're doing
so, look at your flatmate and mutter, 'Soon, soon...'

Draw a tiny black line on your nose. Make it bigger every day.
Look at it and say, 'the hair, it's growing. Growing!'

9) Move everything to one side of the room. Ask your flatmate
if he knows how much an elephant weighs, and look at the floor
on the empty side of the room with concern.

10) Collect potatoes. Paint faces on them and give them names.
Name one after your flatmate. Separate your flatmate's potato
from the others. Wait a few days, and then bake your flatmate's
potato and eat it. Explain to your flatmate, saying 'He just
didn't belong'

Gizmo SMS to offer free worldwide SMS

Looks like the guys over at gizmosms.com are going to offer free worldwide sms, also fairly impressive as they dont require you to know the country code for the country you are texting into or select the receipents carrier, most impressive. Certainly is a lot better than the rest of the competition I have seen(or not as the case may be) such as Google SMS

Free J2ME mobile phone mortgage or loan calculator

Ever wondered exactly what the mortgage you are about to take out actually costs you, how would it be effected by just a 0.25% increase in interest rates, well I was and decided to write an application for my phone!

This is a simple j2me app, that should run on any phone that has Java and MIDP2, if theres enough people who would like it to run on MIDP1 I will port the application, just let me know, in the comments section!
Anyway the application, after you have inputted the amount you wish to borrow, how long you wish to borrow the amount over in years and the interest rate being offered will tell you the following

How much the monthly amounts would be for a repayment mortgage
How much a 0.25% increase in interest rates would add to the monthly payment of a repayment mortgage
How much the monthly amounts would be for an interest only mortgage
How much a 0.25% increase in interest rates would add to the monthly payment of a interest only mortgage
How much you would pay in total for a repayment mortgage
How much of the total amount was interest for the repayment mortgage
How much you would pay total for an interest only mortgage over the term

Hope someone else finds it useful, if you do please let me know, also if you have problems or suggestions for improvements do let me know

I have set up two links
if you have an xhtml compatiable phone you should just be able to goto

http://www.htpcme.com/tap/index.php

for a direct link to the jad please go here(shortened the url with some php to make it easier to type in, on your phone)

If anyone wishes to help pay off my mortgage all donations accepted via paypal haha

Mame Machine is Alive

Well I got two arrivals in the post today, my replacement ArcadeVGA, I have to say it really was great service that I received from Andy at www.ultimarc.com . The replacement is working absolutely brilliant and first impressions are anyone that doubted buying this card, just go ahead and buy it, the difference between playing on a PC SVGA monitor and a true arcade monitor is staggering.

Also received the two marquees I ordered from www.mamemarquees.com , Again great service and the marquees are everything I could have hoped for and will really help finish of the cabinet, when it is complete.

So got it running with my pc, the next steps are
to configure mamewah
wire in the buttons for 4-6 and the coin mechanism
mount everything securely inside the cabinet
make my rgb scart convertor and kick harnesses so that I can put in some consoles easily.

future things to do will probably be to replace the t moulding with some that is black or silver
change the control panel slightly and include a 4 way stick and a spinner much like the neon mame design over at arcadecontrols

Managed to knock out an 85k score on pacman at the first time of asking which is higher than I have managed on the xbox 360s controller :)

No chance to develop for iPhone

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2007/01/12/apple_lockdown_iphone/

Well its a bit of a shame that you wont be able to put your own apps on the iPhone, and think potentially Apple have dropped the ball here, as I am sure given 3-4 weeks you will be able to put apps on it anyway same as the ipod so whats the point of locking it down!

Say no to road pricing

http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/traveltax/

Important link to sign if you ask me, we already have road pricing in effect, its called fuel tax

3 reasons why this is a crap idea

1) We already have a road pricing tax
2) Great for Londeners where I assume this idea was cooked up, who have an alternative and the money can be pumped back in to improve exisiting public transport, what about the people who live or work in bum fuck no where.
3) Government + massive IT system != success || value

Actually point 3 could mean potentially I could sign up to get onto one of these government gravy train projects that never ends and pays a fat final salary pension.

Upright mame machine

Well decided to retire my cocktail and get an upright arcade machine, which will be better suited for the dining room in our house as it will happily hide by the wall leading to the lounge

any way here it as it arrivedHeres a picture of it playing Golden Tee 97 that came with the cabinet the picture is actually very sharp, affect of the camera and glass I assume causing it to look interlaced
Printed out a rough marquee to see what it would look like will order one properly printed from mamemarquees.com

unfortunately the arcade vga card I received from ultimarc arrived non functional am in the process of getting a replacement, have to say ultimarcs customer service is second to none and I thoroughly recommend them not only for supplying quality solutions but also backing that up with good customer service

Tescos Promote responsible drinking and consumer choice!!

When drinking that much half price beer a pack of Nurofen may come in handy, every little helps!

Always good to have your partners work with you as Jean Coussins, Chief Executive of The Portman Group, said:

We are delighted that the alcohol industry has played such an active role in taking the alcohol harm reduction strategy forward. This groundbreaking approach demonstrates the benefits of the industry, government and other stakeholders working in partnership around a shared agenda. Indeed, this initiative takes the government’s initial proposal for a voluntary producers fund much further by involving retailers such as Tesco and Enterprise Inns too.”

Guess the advertising to promote reponsible drinking must have missed Tesco Daventry

Tescos to promote responsible drinking

By Jenny Wiggins and Elizabeth Rigby

Published: October 24 2006 02:00 | Last updated: October 24 2006 02:00

Tesco is to run in-store TV adverts telling shoppers to drink alcohol responsibly over Christmas, in the latest sign of the pressure retailers are coming under from the government to tackle binge drinking.

The move follows a ban on pubs promoting cut-price "happy hours" last year and talks under way with alcohol producers about introducing health warnings on alcoholic drinks.

from http://www.ft.com/cms/s/90c8b898-62fc-11db-8faa-0000779e2340.html

Maybe its just Daventry being the Birmingham Slum clearance area, possible town with a forthcoming land locked marina and monorail to look forward to, we need to drink more to block out the perfect world, Tescos not wanting to harm their profit margin need to make sure we are however feeling well enough, with the aid of liquid Nurofen to get back to the store to purchase more half price beer!
